EPIDEMIC BELFAST

In 2021 and 2022, I received AHRC Impact Acceleration funding, and also Department for the Economy (Northern Ireland) funding to develop original research and outreach activities to further knowledge of Belfast's medical history. This incorporated the following activities:

PODCAST

Epidemic Belfast features a 24 episode podcast which explored Belfast's medical history since the mid-nineteenth century.  The podcast team has consisted of researchers Rebecca Watterson, Rhianne Morgan, Eugenie Scott and Tom Thorpe. Listen on:

PUBLIC EVENTS

For Halloween 2022, we're running a massive four-day event at Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

In August 2022, we hosted an event at the Féile an Phobail Festival, Belfast.

Since June 2022, we have a regular column in History Ireland magazine.

In October 2021, the project team hosted an interactive medical history event at Sunflower Public House, Belfast for the ESRC Festival of Social Science which included a quiz and countdown of our ten most intriguing and gruesome findings while researching the podcast. Details can be found here.
